PHARMACEUTICAL REGULATORY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Ø In January 2024, a meeting was convened with Minister Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health and Wellness and his team, JMEA representatives led by President Sydney Thwaites and JCC Representatives lead by President Phillip Ramson due to a myriad of issues being experienced by pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors over a period of years. As a result of this, a Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) Pharmaceuticals Regulatory Advisory Committee was formed on which two representatives currently sit which are Mr. Christopher Powell (JMEA Board Director) and Ms. Joy Angulu (JMEA Technical Consultant).
Ø The overarching mandate is to advise the Minister and the Standards and Regulations Division (SRD) by offering recommendations to promote and enhance regulatory excellence, while supporting the modernization of Jamaica’s regulatory system. Regulatory excellence fosters innovation, competitiveness, and economic growth, while ensuring health, safety, security, and environmental protection. Two meetings have been convened so far and once information is received from MOHW on their assessments done to date, this will be shared with requisite members.
