Jamaica and Dom Rep ink deal to diversify trade
The Chamber of Commerce of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association have formalised a landmark agreement by signing a memorandum of understanding, aimed at promoting the development and diversification of trade exchanges between the two countries.
The agreement, signed by the President of the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce, Lucile Houellemont and the President of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Sydney Thwaites, underlines that both parties are committed to adopting the necessary measures within their respective jurisdictions and in compliance with applicable laws to facilitate actions that promote economic trade and cooperation among the members of both entities.
“This memorandum is more than a document; It’s a mutual commitment to lead initiatives that promote new opportunities and strengthen our economies. Diversifying trade and taking measures in accordance with our laws are key to ensuring that this cooperation is sustainable and beneficial to all our members,” Houellemont said after the signing.
The JMEA president thanked the welcome received in the country.
“This memorandum provides support and resources for Jamaican companies wishing to penetrate the Dominican market and those looking for nearby suppliers. I firmly believe that our countries are stronger together and by supporting regional enterprises. I look forward to jointly developing opportunities and creating bilateral successes. My sincere thanks to Ambassador Angie Martinez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Jamaica, for her vision and support. I would also like to thank Lucile Houellemont, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo, for her warm welcome and commitment to collaboration.”
